  • Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026
  • Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Location: Virtual via Zoom
    • We may move the tournament to an in-person venue in Saskatoon if all registrants are from Saskatoon.
  • Format: British Parliamentary Style (BP)
  • Rounds: 3 rounds of impromptu debate
  • Who can attend:  SEDA members in Grades 7 to 12 with previous experience with debate.
    • Junior Division: Open to students born on or after September 1, 2011
    • Senior Division: Open to high school students.

Motions

  • All motions will be impromptu.
  • Students will receive the motion 15 minutes before each round.
  • No research is allowed during prep time. Student participants are not permitted to use the internet or AI for research or generating speech content during the tournament.

Judging

To provide the best experience for students and volunteers, we provide judge training at every event! 

  • All teams must provide one judge for the event.
  • Teams that do not provide a judge may be unable to compete. 
  • Judges do not need previous experience as we provide training. We encourage you to view our judging recourses here.
  • Judges can register HERE between August 28 and September 4.

Student Registration

Students must be registered SEDA members in the 2026-2027 season to attend tournaments. If you have not registered your child as a member yet, you can do so HERE!

  • A tournament registration form must be filled in for each student.
  • Space may be limited.
  • If you do not have a partner, SEDA will do its best to match you with a partner.
  • Virtual observers must be registered on the student registration form.
  • Students can be registered HERE between August 28 and September 4.

Tournament Fee

  • $20 tournament fee per student. 
    • If the location changes to in-person, registrants will be required to pay an additional $20, for a total of $40, which is the standard in-person tournament fee.  
  • We offer financial aid when cost is a barrier to participation. Financial aid can be selected on the registration form.
  • You will be sent a link to pay by credit card within 48 hours or registering.
  • Teams that cancel less than 24 hours before the tournament will still owe tournament fees.
