  • Time: 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Location: Yorkton Regional High School, 150 Gladstone Avenue North, Yorkton
  • Who: Open to SEDA members in grades 5 to 12
    • Beginner Division: Grades 5 & 6
    • Intermediate Division: Grades 7 & 8
    • Novice Division: Grades 9 to 12 in their first year of competitive debate
    • Open: Grades 9 to 12 with previous competitive debate experience
  • Format:
    • National Style Debate
    • 2 rounds on a prepared motion. Please note this is a change from our standard 3 round schedule. We are doing 2 rounds to accommodate a shorter tournament day.

Prepared Motions

High School: This house supports the development of AI data centres in Canada.

Elementary: This house supports the development of AI data centres in Canada.

Please come prepared to debate both sides of the motion.

Students are not permitted to use phones or internet capable devices during the tournament.

Judging

To provide the best experience for students and volunteers, we provide judge training at every event! There will be a virtual judge briefing on Friday September 25 from 6:30 to 8:15 PM. All judges must attend.

  • All teams must provide one judge for the event.
  • Teams that do not provide a judge may be unable to compete. 
  • Judges do not need previous experience as we provide training. We encourage you to view our judging recourses here. 
  • Judges can register here between September 8 and 16.

Student Registration

Students must be registered SEDA members in the 2026-2027 season to attend tournaments. If you have not registered your child as a member yet, you can do so HERE!

  • A registration form must be filled in for each student.
  • Space may be limited. 
  • If you do not have a partner, SEDA will do its best to match you with a partner,
  • Students can be registered here between September 8 and 16.

Tournament Fee

  • $40 tournament fee per student. 
  • We offer financial aid when cost is a barrier to participation. Financial aid can be selected on the registration form.
  • You will be sent a link to pay by credit card within 48 hours or registering.
  • Teams that cancel less than 24 hours before the tournament will still owe tournament fees.

Meals

  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Lunch is provided for debaters, coaches, judges, and volunteer moderators.
  • Observers can purchase a lunch ticket for $10. This must be indicated on the student registration form.

Travel & Travel Fees

SEDA is providing a bus from Regina to Yorkton and back.

Fees

  • Students: $30
  • Family Observers: $30
  • Family members who volunteer judge: FREE
  • Coaches: FREE

Details

  • The bus will leave Regina from Regina Huda School, 40 Sheppard Street, at 7:45 AM
  • The bus will leave Yorkton at 2:45 PM to arrive back at Regina Huda School by 5:00 PM.
  • Coaches must chaperone their students on the bus. If your child does not have a club coach, a parent must accompany them as chaperone.
  • You may send snacks with your child to eat on the bus. Please, no nuts
