  • Date: Saturday, February 27, 2027
  • Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Location: Centennial Collegiate High School, Saskatoon
  • Who: Open to students in Grades 8 to 11 with previous experience in World Schools Debate Style. Previous experience may include instruction from a debate coach, workshops, and/or tournament. 
  • Format: Two rounds of World Schools Style Debate. 
  • Student participants are not permitted to use phones or internet capable devices during the tournament.  
  • Judges may observe prep time. 

National & International Debate Opportunity  

  • Based on performance in preparation and rounds, the written application, and an interview, up to three students will be selected to attend the Team Canada National Try Outs in spring 2027
  • If you are successful at the national try outs, you may be invited to attend the worlds training camp in the summer of 2027. 
  • If you are successful at the camp, you may be invited to join Team Canada and will attend international competitions in the 2027 - 2028 debate season.

Judging

  • Students do not need to provide a volunteer judge for this event
  • Judges must have previous experience judging World School Style.  
  • Judge registration will be open here from February 12 – 19.

Student Registration

  • A registration form must be filled in for each student. 
  • Students register as individuals and will be randomly assigned a team. 
  • Space may be limited to twelve competitors at this event. If the number of registrants surpasses our capacity, we will limit available spaces to those with the most World Schools experience. 
  • Debater registration will open here from February 12 - 19.

Tournament Fee

  • $40 tournament fee per student. 
  • We offer financial aid when cost is a barrier to participation. Financial aid can be selected on the registration form.
  • You will be sent a link to pay by credit card within 48 hours or registering.
  • Teams that cancel less than 24 hours before the tournament will still owe tournament fees.

Meals

  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Lunch is provided for debaters, coaches, judges, and volunteer moderators.
  • Observers can purchase a lunch ticket for $10. This must be indicated on the student registration form.

Travel & Travel Fees

If we able to provide a bus for the event, the information will be available here in January.

Responsibilities of Invited Teams 

  • All invited teams may be required to attend a SEDA arranged training session prior to the event and to cooperate with the designated coach(es).  
  • Failure to comply may result in the invitation to the Team Canada Tryouts being revoked. 
  • There may be a fee related to the training session/s.   
  • Students are responsible for any registration fees, accommodation costs, chaperone fees, and flight costs associated with national events.
