2024 Provincial Championship

Event Details

  • This will be a hybrid event.
    • Friday March 15 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Virtual on Zoom. (time subject to change).
    • Saturday March 16. Rounds from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Open final,  banquet dinner, and awards from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. In-person at Aden Bowman High School in Saskatoon (time subject to change).
  • National Style
    • 2 rounds prepared (Friday)
    • 2 rounds impromptu (Satruday).
    • There will be an open division grand final day 2.
  • A banquet dinner will be provided for all debaters and coaches Saturday. Family members can attend the banquet for an additional fee.  

Qualifying

To be eligible to attend the Provincial Championship, debaters must meet eligibility criteria. You can view the criteria HERE.

Theme: Technology and Values

Prepared Elementary Motion: This house regrets the rise of electric vehicles.

Prepared High School Motion: This house believes that the mining of minerals necessary for green technology, such as cobalt and lithium, does more harm than good.

Judging

  • All Saskatoon teams must provide one judge for each day.  The same judge can do both days, or two different judges can each do one day.
  • Teams travelling from outside of Saskatoon must provide one judge for the friday virtual rounds. 
  • Round times:
    • Friday March 15 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Virtual on Zoom. 
    • Saturday March 16 from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM. In-person at Aden Bowman High School in Saskatoon
  • Teams that do not fulfill the judge requirements may be unable to compete.
  • Judge briefings will be provided.

Debater Registration & Fee

  • The debater registration link will be included in the emailed invitations. Invitations will be sent Wednesday February 14. 
  • Tournament fee per student: $85
    • Limited financial aid options available.
    • E-transfer the fee to director@saskdebate.com. Put the students name followed by PRO in the memo line.
    • Teams that cancel less than 48 hours before the tournament will still owe tournament fees.

Observers

  • Each debater is allowed two virtual observers on day one. Virtual observers must be registered on the student’s registration form.

Meals & Banquet

  • No lunch will be provided. Snacks will be provided on Saturday for debaters and volunteers. 
  • The Saturday banquet dinner is for debaters and coaches. One family member banquet ticket per debater may be purchased through the student's registration form. We will let you know if more tickets become available. There are two prices for banquet tickets.
    • Parents/family members who volunteer judge: $25
    • Parents/family members who do not volunteer judge: $40

National Championship
