Tournament 5: The Environment

Luther College High School

Workshop Details

This tournament comes with a workshop! Students will enjoy a workshop on climate change led by Krystopher Chutko, Assistant Professor & Chair, Environment & Society and Hydrology Programs at the University of Saskatchewan. This workshop will provide students with the relevant context to address the motions. Krystopher wants to hear from the students! We encourage students who have any questions about climate change & the environment to submit their questions through this FORM, so Krystopher can adress them as the workshops.

High School Motion:

This house would abandon the search for climate solutions and fully invest in space travel and exploration.

Students should come prepared to debate both sides of the motion. There will be an impromptu motion after two rounds of this prepared motion.

Judging

  • Judges should register HERE by November 26.
  • All teams must provide one judge for the event.
  • Teams that do not provide a judge may be unable to compete.
  • Judges do not need previous experience. We provide a judge briefing at the start of every event to teach judges how to score a debate and give feedback.
  • The judge requirement is still in place for teams travelling from another town. We recruit judges from the community to support travelling teams who are unable to recruit judges and fill judging gaps. A community judge cannot be guaranteed.

Registration

We have reached the limit of teams at the tournament. Please email info@saskdebate.com to be put on the waitlist. We will allow more registrations if more spots become available.

  • A registration form must be filled out for each student by Sunday November 26.  The form will register students for the workshop as well!
  • There may be a limit to the number of teams who can register.
  • If the number of teams registered is not divisible by two, some teams may be required to sit out one round at the event.
  • If you do not have a partner, SEDA will do its best to match you with a partner.
