Motions
Elementary Prepared Motion: This house would privatize the sale of water.
High School Prepared Motion: Energy conglomerates are corporations that consolidate a significant percentage of different energy sources, both renewable and non-renewable. These include but are not limited to gasoline, electricity, solar energy, natural gas, and nuclear energy. Examples include Total Energies and Repsol in Europe, Shell in Africa, and Ecopetrol in Latin America. This house would break up energy conglomerates.
Students should come prepared to debate both side of their motion.
The third round motion will be impromptu. Students will be given the motion at the event and will have 30 minutes to prepare their speeches. No research is allowed during prep time. We have resources to help students prepare for impromptu debates
Judging
- All teams must provide one judge for the event.
- Teams that do not provide a judge may be unable to compete.
- Judges do not need previous experience
- Judges in Swift Current will have a training briefing at 9:00 AM on Saturday the 18th at Swift Current High School
- Judges outside of Swift Current will attend a virtual briefing on the evening of Friday the 17th. This will allow the bus leaving saskatoon to leave at 6:45 AM instead of 5:45 AM!

Registration
- There may be a limit to the number of teams who can register.
- If an odd number of teams register, some teams may be required to sit out one round.
- If you do not have a partner, SEDA will do its best to match you with a partner.
- A registration from must be filled in for each student.
- Student registration will be open HERE from Friday December 13 to Friday January 10.
Tournament Fee
- $40 tournament fee per student.
- E-transfer to director@saskdebate.com by Friday January 10. Put the student's name followed by T6 in the memo line.
- Teams that cancel less than 24 hours before the tournament will still owe tournament fees.
- We offer a 25% or 50% subsidy. If the subsidy prices are still a barrier to participation, please contact SEDA at info@saskdebate.com.
Volunteer Moderators
- A moderator is the person who introduces the round of debate, tracks speaking times of each debater for the judges, and brings judge ballots to tournament staff.
- This role is best held by a student who enjoys volunteering and/or is interested in debate.
- Register to moderate with this registration form.
Meals
- Please bring a reusable water bottle.
- Lunch will be provided for debaters, judges, and volunteer moderators.
- Students can bring snacks on the bus. Please, no nuts.
Travel & Travel Fees
We will provide a coach bus for students travelling from Saskatoon if we meet a minimum of 20 students!
