Motions and Prep

Beginner and Intermediate motion: This house believes that expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) will do more harm than good.

Novice and Open prepared motion: This house, as the United States government, would nationalize the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

  • Students should come prepared to debate both sides of the prepared motion.
  • Student will receive the impromptu motion 30 minutes before the impromptu round.

  • All teams must provide one judge.
  • Teams without a judge may be unable to compete.

  • Judges should register HERE by October 24.

We’ve made a few updates to the debate scoring rubrics on our ballots used at our national style tournaments based on feedback from judges and tournament staff. Key things to be aware of:

  • The structure and scoring remain the same.
  • The language in the rubric has been adjusted to help make things clearer for our volunteer judges and improve standards and consistency in judging.
  • Standards expected from debaters have not shifted and we do not expect scores to change significantly.
  • You can view the new rubrics on our judge resource page HERE.
Registration
  • Space may be limited
  • Some teams may sit out a round if numbers are uneven.
  • If you don’t have a partner, we will try to match you with someone.
